Wilshere Update & Players Linked

December 16, 2011

The January transfer window is fast approaching and there have been a fair few players linked in the past few days. But to be honest, if I did a ratio of the amount of players linked and the amount of players signed, well, you get the picture.

Here is the run down of the players that have been linked in the last few days.

There’s Lucas Biglia who currently playes for RSC Anderlecht. The Argentine midfielder has also been linked with a number of Italian clubs because he has an Italian passport which makes me think he’s a lot more likely to end up there.

On a day that Wenger dismissed rumours that Lucas Podolski is to make a January move to the Gunners it’s no surprise that only the Daily Mail printed an article about him coming to North London…

Although there is a another Bundesliga striker linked to the Gunners. Having scored 11 goals in 16 appearances Marco Reus is in stunning form and is rumoured to want a move away from Germany.

His current club Borussia Monchengladbach will not be keen to let him go however because he is a vital cog in there title challenge this season, they currently sit 4th in the table, just 4 points from Munich at the summit.

Moving on to some good news, Jack Wilshere having been out with an injured ankle since a Pre-Season match against NY Red Bulls, will return to the side in February. Baring in mind Arsenal’s midfield trio of Arteta, Song and Ramsey have been putting in some stellar performances this season and dislodging any of them will prove tough for Wilshere who will need to take any chance he get to regain his sport in the starting eleven.

Kieran Gibbs is expected to return at a similar time, his return to the team will be welcome to an Arsenal team who had to field four Centre Backs at the weekend.

Arsenal Draw AC Milan

December 16, 2011
Arsenal face a tough match against AC Milan in the last 16 of the Champions League, but with other teams in the draw such as Barcelona, Napoli, Real Madrid and Inter Milan there will other teams with equally as tough matches. The only other English team in the Last 16 is Chelsea and they will have to travel to Naples to play against Napoli who helped knock Manchester City into the Europa League, where they will face FC Porto.

Head to Head:

Arsenal have played five games against Milan since 1995 winning only one of those game, but only losing one game as well, because of three draws in that period.
The results of these matches:
31 July 2010                  Arsenal 1-1 AC Milan
04 March 2008              Arsenal 2-0 AC Milan
20 February 2008          Arsenal 0-0 AC Milan
08 February 1995          Arsenal 0-2 AC Milan
01 February 1995          Arsenal 0-0 AC Milan
Arsenal and AC Milan have found each other hard to break down, with each team only scoring three goals each in five games against each other with two no score draws. Milan are very successful in European competition, with seven titles (1963, 1969, 1989, 1990, 1994, 2003 and 2007) and a further four final appearances. Arsenal came close in 2006 but a 1-0 lead was overturned by Barcelona. As Group winners both English sides will play away in the first leg, which takes place on 15th February, before the return fixture on 6th March.

Bendtner Arrested For Vandilism

December 16, 2011

Bendtner who has been average for Sunderland this season scoring only two goals so far this season. And to add to his woes he has been arrested on suspicion of vandalising cars close to the Sports direct Arena.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said:

“Police can confirm that on Thursday, December 15, two men aged 23 were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.
“It follows an investigation in to damage caused to cars on Stowell Street in Newcastle city centre, which happened at about 10pm on Tuesday, December 6.”
Both the players (Bendtner and Cattermole) were questioned by police before being released on bail. Bendtner had complained about not being given enough playing time at Arsenal and somewhat forced his season long loan move from the Gunners. If he does want to regain a spot in the Arsenal team he’ll want to be avoiding being involved in such acts.
